Advanced Life Support (ALS)

Description:
Ischaemic heart disease is the leading cause of death world wide. In Europe, cardiovascular disease accounts for around 40% of all deaths under the age of 75 years.

Sudden cardiac arrest is responsible for more than 60% of adult deaths from coronary heart disease. The quality of advanced life support in the post resuscitation period influences the patients’ ultimate outcome.

The ALS course is designed for healthcare professionals who will be expected to apply these skills to maintain life.

All applicants must hold a current clinical appointment and professional qualification.

This is a two day course and is recognised by the Resuscitation Council (UK) and on successful completion the candidate will receive certification by the Council.

The candidate will be taught how to manage a cardiac arrest and their competency will be assessed by:-

* Multi Choice Questionnaire
* Basic Life Support
* Basic and Advanced Airway Management
* Defibrillation
* Being a Team Leader at a cardiac arrest


The candidates will be assessed using the very latest in simulation technology.

The content of the course will also cover special circumstances in cardiac arrest.

ALS Course will:

* Benefit Patients;
* Formalise training;
* Provide opportunity for extended role participation;
* Encourage regional and national standardisation.
